Shreya Ghoshal

Shreya Ghoshal is one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, known for her versatile voice and emotive singing style. Born on March 12, 1984, in Berhampore, West Bengal, she showed an early passion for music, influenced by her mother who sang and her father, a scientist in the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Shreya began her classical training at the age of four, and by age six, she moved with her family to Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, where her talent continued to flourish under the guidance of various classical music teachers.

Her journey to fame started when she won the popular television singing competition, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, in 2000. Her big break came when Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali noticed her performance on the show and offered her the opportunity to sing in his film Devdas (2002). Her songs in Devdas, especially "Dola Re Dola" and "Bairi Piya," brought her critical acclaim and several awards, including a National Film Award.

Since then, Shreya has become a prominent voice in Bollywood and regional Indian cinema, singing in multiple languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Her accolades include multiple Filmfare Awards, State Awards, and National Film Awards, making her one of India’s most awarded singers.

Over her career, Shreya has also ventured into independent music, concerts, and international tours, expanding her fan base worldwide. Known for her gentle persona and dedication to her craft, she remains an influential figure in contemporary Indian music. Her voice is celebrated for its smoothness and emotional depth, earning her comparisons to legendary playback singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
